AltCMO Research Finds Many ENR Top 400 Contractors Haven’t Updated Their Websites in Years
After publishing our 2025 Construction SEO Report, which analyzed all 400 websites for ENR’s Top 400 Contractors list, we decided to dig deeper into one simple, but revealing, question: How often do the largest construction companies in America update their websites?
On paper, these firms appear strong. Most have solid SEO scores and full in-house marketing teams. Yet when we examined their websites using ChatGPT, Gemini, and SEO tools to find each firm’s most recent blog or news post, the results told a different story.
- 169.6 days , Average time since the last post
- 74.5 days , Median time since last post
- 3,208 days (8.8 years) , Oldest “latest post” we found
- 50 contractors , Have no blog or news section at all
In other words, even the industry’s biggest names are letting their digital presence go stale.
Why It Matters
A stagnant website doesn’t just hurt your SEO. It sends a message. If your last news post is nearly a decade old, visitors start to wonder whether your company is still active, or still growing.
Fresh content demonstrates momentum. It shows clients, partners, and recruits that your firm is thriving, winning work, and leading the industry forward.
What Contractors Should Be Posting
To keep your website current and credible, post updates such as:
- Project milestones: groundbreakings, topping out, completions
- Awards, new hires, or new offices
- Client education and industry insights
- Expert commentary or research
- Community events and company news
